Prince Philip Asks Navy Cadet If She Works In A Strip Club

I’m not sure this came off as well as Prince Philip thought it would. The Duke of Edinburgh was chatting with a group of women, one of whom is a Navy sea cadet instructor, when he decided to inquire a little further about a comment the cadet had made. She mention during their exchange that she was a barmaid. And of course instead of simply asking what bar she worked at or if she enjoyed what she was doing, the prince went a completely different route. Instead he asked her if she worked in a strip club. Of course! Young woman, bar, liquor she’s got to be working the strip club circuit.

The cadet, 24-year-old Elizabeth Rendle, took the comment in stride, believing that the Prince didn’t mean to insult her, but rather was trying to lighten the mood:

“He was just going round chatting with people, asking them what they did for a living. It was a joke and we were all laughing which drew everyone else’s attention. I don’t think he put his foot in it. It was a joke and I didn’t take any offence.”

A peculiar sense of humor Philip has, isn’t it?
