Drunk Chimp Shipped Off to Rehab

This is sad on so many levels. A Russian chimpanzee named Zhora was recently sent to rehab by zookeepers who thought it was time that the monkey give up his beer-drinking, cigarette smoking habits. Zhora had originally been a performer in the circus but was sent to a zoo near Rostov, Russia after exhibiting too much aggressive behavior. Once hauled off to the Rostov, Zhora kept himself busy, fathering two children and apparently learning to booze and smoke with the best of the them. The local paper reported:

“The beer and cigarettes were ruining him. He would pester passers-by for booze.”

Now Zhora has landed in Kazan, a town about 500 miles outside Moscow, for some rehabilitation. So does that mean there is a whole gaggle of beer-guzzling chimps out there? That’s strange.
