Douchebag of the Day: Political Activist Naomi Campbell

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and British top model Naomi Campbell visit a populated neighborhood in Caracas Oct. 31.<a mce_thref=

Say what you will about George W. Bush‘s presidency, but celebs need to hang out with Hugo Chavez is absolutely appalling. Model Naomi Campbell is the latest celebrity to meet with the Venezuelan leader Oct. 31.

Via Rush and Malloy:

The supermodel said, “I’m not here to be political” as she met with the left-wing Venezuelan president, though she reportedly said, “I hate Bush” when she was in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

I hate Bush as much as the next person does, but all one has to do is read the paper and watch the news to know that Hugo Chavez is no better.

The man has even passed a law that gives the Venezuelan government power to arrest anyone who talks ill of him and his administration. He is an insult to democracy.

as if Bush and our government are any better (say what u want but censorship/Big Brother is alive and well in this country)..at least he sympathizes with minorities

  2. Carolina says:

I’m from venezuela, and there’s nothing that makes me happier than to hear for the first time someone agreeing with us..lately many famous people like naomi campbell, sean penn and even kevin spacey, etc have come here, supporting chavez just because he hates bush..personally, i don’t like bush either, but trust me, CHAVEZ is worse, and what makes me angrier is the fact that they don’t live here, they are not living the nightmare we are living for making statements like chavez is such a good person, specially that he simpathizes with minorities, i’ll tell you how: he tells them that just because you studied and worked hard to get the things you have, like your food, house, cars, etc your stole it from poor people, who of course, don’t work and DON’T WANT TO, and he is making laws right now to take your things away, and give it to them..think about how you would feel if someone took all your things away, liek your cars, your money, and properties, things you’ve earned working really hard…sorry for my english..

“The man has even passed a law that gives the Venezuelan government power to arrest anyone who talks ill of him and his administration. He is an insult to democracy”

That’s kind of why they call those types a Dictator.

As to the celebutards who flock to him. Are they just stupid or clinically insane?

  4. Seth says:

There is no such law, don’t lie.

I am not a Chavez fan but I won’t tell lies to make a point.

He Might not be a nice person but I like the fact that he is looking out for the poor of his country. I watched the BBC News and learned that he has given medical and educational opportunity to the poor and he believes the country’s wealth should be spread to all.

I have visited Venezuela many years back pre-Chavez and was heartbroken by the extreme poverty of the majority of the population living in shanties on the hillsides, in a country rich with oil wealth.

If Chavez can help the poor I’d give him a chance.

We should let corporations tell us how to think, because they want to suck the life blood out of a poor country.

    LOL…NOW WHAT…SHE DOES POLITICS?

I wish they’d keep the brain dead idiot…. Oh wait, it’s another Hollywood high school dropout that’s now a foreign policy expert.

  7. gymo says:

    Facts:

Chavez is a duly/legally elected leader with about 70% of the vote.

Venezuela now has even more democracy than the U.S.A, in the U.S it only requires a majority of Congress to make major changes to the constitution.

In Venezuela it requires a Referendum, where the actual citizens vote (yes/no).

So the people have more say in their government.

The upper class in Venezuela don’t have the majority vote so they try to subvert the will of the people and revolt, so Chavez says let the people vote decide, and the opposition doesn’t want the people to get that vote.

Chavez wants to give everybody rich and poor alike the same opportunity for an education, the upper class says it’s a waste of money.

When the overthrew him some years ago, the majority of the Venezuelans took to the streets and demanded his return.

The TV station Chavez shutdown was getting money from foreigners and telling people to revolt against the government, it that was in the U.S.A they would have been shipped to Guantanamo as enemy combatants.

  8. gymo says:

    @Carolina,

it’s not just your English is bad, also your relationship with the truth.

Why would you lie about your country?

No American would do that about the U.S.A we are always proud of our country and don’t involve foreigners in our internal affairs.

    @Seth, correction.

Both Caracas and Maracaibo were centers of poverty while the rich upper class liked kings.

The rich believes the oil money belongs only to them.

I’m from venezuela, and there’s nothing that makes me happier than to hear for the first time someone agreeing with us…he is making laws right now to take your things away…how would you feel if someone took all your things away, like your cars, your money, and properties, things you’ve earned working really hard

We have such people, they are called “Democrats”.

  10. Venezolana! says:

Gymoooooo pedazooo de brutoooo! come here and see what we live every day, if we go to the supermarkets there is no milk, no eggs, no meat, there is nothing, not even for chavez´s people! I am not part of the “upper class” i live in los ruices, if you know something about Venezuela you would know about los ruices, and you would definetly know that is not one of the rich´s places. As you said, he was legally elected, in 1998, i was one of those who voted for him, because i belived in him, i belived in his ideals, i belived that venezuela needed a change, but then i realized, as many other people even people in his goverment, (as the general Baduel who used to be one of chavez´s right hands, ultil yesterday), that he was leading us, into something very different, not the beautiful and new venezuela that he promised! he was leading us into a country full of hate between clasess (rich and poor), racism ( if u are not dark, and have curly black hair, and black eyes, you simply are not venezolan)… when he speaks,he definetly has something, i first fell in love with him, his ideals, and his taugths about the new venezuela, but then i realized that all that beautifull things he promised, were just a way to manipulate people, and to fool them, fool us… he tricked me once, but not twice… im a 30 year single mother, and every day i feel more fear about my children, ihave a 3 year old boy, and you have no idea how hard is for me to find milk to feed him, you have no idea how sad it feels to know that your baby, that you carried 9 months and you love him more than anything in the world belongs to the goverment, and if the govermet wants he could take him away anytime, with no reason. i hate bush, i hate war, i hate everything he has done until now, but a read news, i dont only read one side of the story, i read both, one of my cousins is in irak, in the navy. i live here in venezuela and i love my country… so please, if you hadn´t come here recently, dont speak about something you simply has no idea!… rich people in venezuela don´t sell oil!, don´t recive money from oil ok? for the record, people from the goverment are the one who recieve that money, google “gabriela chacon” and you would know where all that money goes, google venezuela, and you will find out how many people die every weekend in the hands of “delinquency”(killers, kidnapers…)… and remember the fact that chavez hates bush, does not mean that he is good, means that he agrees with something with us, with just that one and only fact, because I am sure, that if you read the new laws in the constitution, that chavez is traying to aprove, you wouldn´t say all those estupid things you said… i invite you to come here and realized that what u think is happening is not… this afternon i was comming back from work to home, and I saw a grafiti on a wall in a very poor neighborhood called “barrio sta cruz del este” … in the wall was writen: ” viva chavez pero no la reforma” so google that and translate it, not even chavez´s people agree with the new laws… ok? so come here and see what is really happening before writing something else, or at least read papers, magazines, watch tv…

  11. Venezolana! says:

so you can make an smart comment… even if you still agree with chavez, everybody is different, but tell me real facts, actual facts, smart things based on real things…

  12. gymo says:

    @Venezolana,

Insulting me doen’t make you right, just stupid.

I did mention I visited Venezuela many times as I worked for a charity organization.

People like you would like to see your poor countrymen, who happens to be the majority suffer, so you can live the good life. (I saw it)

You think all Americans are dumb, so you can tell us anything and we will swallow it. I guarantee you that a lot of us are way smarter than President Bush appears.

Venezuela’s majority has voted and they want Chavez, so you folks run around trying to get someone (USA) to invade your country and kill all the poor people so you can get back in power..YOU PEOPLE ARE PITIFUL.

Don’t come to America we don’t want your kind.

@Carolina, Since you are a Venezuelan SHUT THE F**k ABOUT USA POLITICS, we don’t let stupid foreigners interfere in our country.

  13. Carolina says:

“There is no such law, don’t lie”

“he has given medical and educational opportunity to the poor and he believes the country’s wealth should be spread to all”

“extreme poverty of the majority of the population”

Seth, i don’t need to lie,if you came here again and see what we live every single day, i’m pretty sure you wouldn’t think the same way…second, read the LAWS from la reforma, and talk later.. trust me, I know what my country is, and first of all, is extremely pooor! and everyday thigs are getting worse! i’ve worked and work! with poor people because I want to make this place a better place, and specially it breaks my heart, to see little kids without food, and then, see them becoming delinquents ..my familyyy came from poor people, but they worked hard to get the things they have nowadays, we didn’t get it from oil money either we are such an UPPER CLASS, we have money just for the most important things, like education, food, wealth, clohing and a house…the education and medicine chavez provided to poor people, I’m not saying is bad, that’s the only thing even people from opposition recognize him , but it’s not even working in every single neighborhood, there are many people in hunger, sick and without education..the oil money, that’s not for us! I met a friend whose father works for the government, and before chavez, they lived in a 2 bedroom apartment, a family of 5, in la california norte, if you know what that place is…Now they are living in la lagunita, which is like your Orange county or Hamptons, only rich people live there..they have a mansion that the cost would feed half a neighborhood..they have hummers, bmw’s for cars..and it’s not only them, is everysingle person that works for the government..tell me where that money came from..and, just because you have a version of it,and i have a different one, specially living here, doesn’t make me a liar, i truly respect your opinion, but i wish you came here again and see that things have changed A LOT in the past 10 years..

  14. Carolina says:

hey gymo! why are you so disrespectful? i didn’t even talk about bush, i just said, i didn’t like many thins about him just because he remind me of chavez, and just because i dind’t like him, i WASN’T TALKING ABOUT HIM, like you are talking about chavez! actually, you made me a favor, trust me, now you are in our position, just when people like you, or celebrities come here, interfere in our country …and trust me, I’VE WORKED with charity from my own country, because i want the best for them..and yes! It was the 70%, chavez made them and made us! because i even voted for him, a promise! and we haven’t seen anything.. you need to stop being violent dude, just makes you look immature and more stupid..

  15. Carolina says:

and read my first post again and tell me where did i talk about bush? you really NEED to read it again “I’m from venezuela, and there’s nothing that makes me happier than to hear for the first time someone agreeing with us..lately many famous people like naomi campbell, sean penn and even kevin spacey, etc have come here, supporting chavez just because he hates bush..personally, i don’t like bush either, but trust me, CHAVEZ is worse.. and what makes me angrier is the fact that they don’t live here, they are not living the nightmare we are living for making statements like chavez is such a good person, specially that he simpathizes with minorities, i’ll tell you how: he tells them that just because you studied and worked hard to get the things you have, like your food, house, cars, etc your stole it from poor people, who of course, don’t work and DON’T WANT TO, and he is making laws right now to take your things away, and give it to them..think about how you would feel if someone took all your things away, liek your cars, your money, and properties, things you’ve earned working really hard…sorry for my english..”

  16. Carolina says:

and i’m not gonna spend more of my time in this, I truly wanted to talk to you, in a very respectful way, but if there’s anything that makes me really sad and angry, is people who are rude and violent, it’s a shame you act so violent and rude, that doesn’t solve things out in any aspect of your life, you should have more class, I didn’t insult you in any post..

  17. gymo says:

@Carolina, I have written to a friend of my in Maracaibo (who is rich) asking him to secure a copy of Venezuela’s constitution, please tell my where to find that new law.

Also, what you are forgetting to mention is that the reason why there is a lot of poverty in Venezuela, was the previous governments screwing up the country, same people you are trying to get back in power.

    The UN says: (under Chavez)

    Birth rate mortality has decreased.

Medical availability has improved for the populace.

    Education has improved

The country GDP (wealth) has improved.

I can see how bad he is, he might help the majority out of poverty.

I am rude because as an American I can’t accept seeing people sell out their country. If an American did that to my country I would show him what violence is.

  18. gymo says:

You may wonder why I am so interested in South America. Apart from the fact that I like @Seth hate liars, I want you folks to succeed so you can stay the hell out of my country.

When you folks screw up your countries you flood over our borders and try to screw up this one.

  19. Carolina says:

Gymo..the laws are not now in the constitution..they have been proposed,it’s called the reform of the constitution, i don’t know if you’ve seen on tv that right now there are protests, because chavez is proposing laws, like interfirieng with the companies, putting taxes to your cars, houses, because you have them, and theres one that says that there would be no elections..there are gonna be elections in december to see if people aprove the reform, and trust me, im not interested in going to your country, I hate when people from outside come to invade my country too, like colombians, peruvians, cubans, hatians, and etc..that’s why im fighting for my rights..and yes, i know my history, i know they have messed up venezuela in the previous governments, im not even in any political party, either my family, i truly hate and punish what they’ve done in the past,i don’t like the way anyone has handle my country, and yes, chavez has done those things, i never said he didn’t but at the same time, you have to see how many people die every weekend, ask to your friend in maracaibo how secure is venezuela, they kill you for a pair of shoes, and i’m not laying, one of my best friends was murdered because a thief wanted his pair of shoes…i really like the fact that you are hoping we suceed, but at the same time, again, you dont need to be rude, i’m not being rude to you..and just because other latins, and i totally agree with you, like cubans, argentinians and even some venezuelan, have gone there and tried to screw up your contry doesn’t mean we are all the same..most of them are people without education who end up working at a wal mart, and you know i’m totally right..i’m in college, i’m not any stupid girl who doesn’t know anything, and i’m working as hard as my parents to make my country a better place and stay here, because i know what it feels like to have foreigners that make your country worse..i’m not a liar, i’m telling you that again, and i’m not selling my country..i just saw the post of naomi campbell, and these other celebrities, who come here, and say they hate bush, and just because chavez talks against bush doesn’t mean they should come here ant talk about our political situation, you said that to me..really, i don’t want to be violent, either fight in a numb internet blog, it’s stupid, really, i was just giving MY point of view..if your friend is chavista, he is giving you HIS point of view, that’s why if you lived here you would have you’re own point of view, and then again i’m telling you, i came from a very poor family, and i know what needs are, and as i agree with some things, I don’t agree with others, and that’s My point of view, and you should respect it.

  20. Venezolana! says:

Gymo, im not insulting you, i respect the way you think, and i respect what you are saying, but i don´t support it, and i definnetly can´t agree with you… I not rich, as i told you, my family is definetly not rich, part of my family is originaly from vargas, and from maturin, we are not rich people, im a school teacher… and we are not asking for bush, or anyone else to come here to hepl us, or kill chavez, we dont even want to kill him, we just dont want him to be the president anymore, beacuase he is leading us into something horrible, im poor, and i dont want to be killed, i just want a different country, not like cuba… and im sure that rich people, doesn´t want to kill us… today there was a huge protest, most of the people who were protesting were students, some from private universities, but most from public universities like UCV (universidad central de venezuela), and there was this girl, who had a “pancarta” (i don´t know how to say ir in english its a big paper whit something writen on it) i took a picture to send it someday to you, but i realized that i cant send pictures in this web site, in the “pancarta” was writen the following in spanish haha obvious: “i dont have a hummer,i dont even have a car, i dont have an apartment, i dont have money, and i am not blond or have blue eyes, and im against the new constitution”… gymo i dont have money, i had the chance to study at the UCV, i live in a not wealthy place, my family is poor, i voted for chavez, i belived in him 9 years ago, but he is a liar… and he won´t fool me anymore…

    bye, and take care…

    Venezolana 100%
