X-Box and PS3 Get Price Drops. Grandparents and Hillbillies Still Prefer the Wii.

"call of duty" really takes grandma back

Back quite some time ago, you may even remember it, Sony and Microsoft owned the console wars, with both the PS2 and the X-Box battling over top position in the market. And Nintendo? Well, Nintendo pretty much looked like bull plop, with the Gamecube pretty much being certified proof that you deserved to get beaten up if you owned a copy of Luigi’s Mansion.

But that was so four years ago, and now that we’ve moved on into the next generation of consoles, with Microsoft’s 360 flagging and the PS3 looking to make Sony put out a second lease on their home, there’s news that both companies have dropped their prices. Why? Because now the Nintendo Wii owns, baby.  Here’s what’s happened:

The PS3 was first to take action by making the PS3 smaller and cuter, and quite possibly, even more full of love.

The tiny black box is said to be 32% smaller, 36% lighter and consume 34% less power. It will use a 120 GB hard drive and cost $299 in the States and 299 euros in Europe.

Microsoft, of course, had to follow suit, and they did so, looking like chumps in the process.

“A week after Sony announced the PS3 Slim and price cut,Microsoft is answering back. They’ve slashed the prices on the 120GB and 60GB models of the Xbox 360.

The 120GB Xbox 360 “Elite” sees its price reduced from $399 to $299. The 60 GB “Pro”, previously $299, is now $249. The Xbox 360 “Arcade” with no hard drive will keep its $199 price tag. If you’re in the UK, the new “Elite” price is £199.99.

And what’s Nintendo dropping their price to? Hmmm? I think they might actually be raising their price now, since they’re making so much damn money on the machine that Wii Sports built, as Nintendo keeps consistently filling their pockets with lucre with sales on their major system. Blame and finger-pointing for the Wii’s monumental success are currently set on senior citizens, hillbillies, and vaguely hot young women if this early commercial is any proof.
