Why Russians Are My Heros

After what I can only assume for most of you was a Friday night of heavy drinking, I figured this post might resonate as much as your hangover does.  Russian’s relationship to alcohol is one of those things that is based in major lore and it’s apparently true.  According to a recent study to be published in the Lancet states that more than half of deaths among Russians aged 15-54 are alcohol related.  Actually, it’s due to “excessive consumption of alcohol.”

The study goes on to say:

Russia’s mortality rate in people aged 15-54 years was more than five times higher for men and three times higher for women than in Western Europe…Alcohol is responsible for about three quarters of the deaths of all Russian men aged 15-54 and about half of all deaths of Russian women of the same age, the data showed.
