25 Years Later, Spinal Tap Records "Saucy Jack"
Spinal Tap, the band from the 1984 mockumentary that made “mockumentary” a word, This Is Spinal Tap, have apparently realized part of their dream to make a rock opera based on the life of Jack the Ripper. They talk about it at the end of the movie:
Derek Smalls: Remember at Luton Palace we were talking about writing a rock musical based on the life of Jack the Ripper.
David St. Hubbins: Yeah!
[singing]
David St. Hubbins: You’re a naughty one…
Derek Smalls, David St. Hubbins: Saucy Jack…
David St. Hubbins: You’re a haughty one, saucy Jack.
Well Spinal Tap is touring once again, and they’ve finally finished work on “Saucy Jack.” Song after the jump:
I also found this article that announces the band’s reunion and describes what they’re up to these days:
Nigel has been raising miniature horses to race but can’t find jockeys small enough to ride them; David is now a hip-hop producer who also runs a colonic clinic; and Derek is in rehab for addiction to the Internet.
They’ve still got it. Here’s the “Saucy Jack” download.
