Drink This: Hofbrau Dunkel

Back in the day, I blogged for a wine company and bounced around Europe for a bit.  There could be no complaints about this job, except that all this time I was spending drinking fine wine was really cutting into my time drinking crap beer.  Or drinking any beer, really.

So while autobahning in a little Peugeuot from the Rhine part of Germany to Vienna, I made a overnight stop in Munich to drink my month’s beer quota alongside yelling Germans in felt hats.  I went, of course, to the storied Hofbrauhaus beer hall.  At the Hofbrauhaus, the only beer you can get is Hofbrau… or Hofbrau Dunkel (dark).  And until recently, the only size glass you could get was Stein.  1 Liter stein. 

The Dunkel is a good, relatively full-bodied, roasty beer.  But that’s not really what’s important about it.  What’s important is how you end up facedown on the floor at a pitch-black rave club in an underground warehouse somewhere on the edge of town, just eating those delicious trance beats right off the ground.
