Happy Cinco de Mayo!

Happy Cinco de Mayo!

Happy Cinco de Mayo to everyone out in internetland!  I hope you’ll be spending the day knee deep in margaritas.  However, if like most of us you have to work tomorrow you might want to keep activities to a minimum tonight, which is understandable, but doesn’t mean you have to skip out on the fun altogether! You can indulge on a few drinks at home with friends and save yourself the trouble of stumbling home, since you’ll already be there.

Check out our recipe for a delicious, classic margarita after the jump>>>A classic margarita is more than just sweet & sour mix and tequila over ice.  It’s simple and effective.  Especially when using fresh ingredients and pure agave tequila.

Classic Margarita

  • Salt, for rimming the glass (optional)
  • Ice
  • 2 ounces tequila (blanco, 100 percent agave)
  • 1 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1/2 ounce Cointreau (not Triple Sec)
  • 1/2 ounce Grand Marnier
The trick is to use fresh lime juice so stock up on limes and invest in a juicer.  If you don’t have a juicer you’ll be good to make this drink, but if you ever plan to make it for multiple people you probably won’t want to be sitting in the kitchen for hours hand squeezing limes.  Then again, I guess that’s a pretty good gage of how drunk you are–when you’re too drunk to squeeze limes, you’re too drunk to keep drinking, right?
Start by wetting the rim of your glass and putting salt around it.  Next, mix all the ingredients except for the Grand Marnier, together in a shaker and pour over ice.  Then pour the Grand Marnier on top of the drink and let it float there.  Garnish with a sprig of lime and a straw, you know, until you’re too drunk to care about that sort of thing!
