Pregnant British Woman Faces Death Penalty in Laos for Drugs
This one’s a bit of a legal and geopolitical clusterf*ck: a British woman born in Nigeria is on trial in Laos for trafficking 2.2 pounds of heroin. Also, she faces the death penalty by firing squad. Also, she’s 20. Also, she’s pregnant. A lot going on here!
CNN interviewed the mother of Samantha Orobator:
“I don’t know” what she was doing there [in Laos], she said. “The last time she spoke with me, she said she was on holiday in London and she would come to see us in Dublin before returning to the U.K. in July.“She is not the type of person who would be involved in drugs,” she added.
Furthermore, she got pregnant in prison. Hopefully it’s all just a big misunderstanding and Halle Berry will play her in the movie.
