Movie Night or Bar Fight: Wolverine, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, Battle for Terra
Time for your weekly roundup of newly released films that you might consider seeing tonight instead of drinking yourself to the stabbing point! On a more serious note of bar fight etiquette, though – don’t stab. No one likes a stabber. Tonight we have X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, and Battle for Terra.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine: Critics who say it’s good say it’s moderately good. Critics who say it’s bad say it’s really bad. Wolverine fights, loves, and meets his future freak pals. Verdict: Sounds like an “appeals mostly to fans” comic book movie, and if you’re that psyched on X-Men, you’re probably not out there shanking too many folks with broken pool cues anyway.
Ghosts of Girlfriends Past: This next one’s for all you douchebags out there. The main character is a “celebrity photographer” who is also Matthew McConaughey. Apparently there’s a scene in which he breaks up with multiple girlfriends via conference call. But you know how this movie ends. Ahhh! Romance! Verdict: Bar fight.
Battle for Terra: Here’s the studio pitch: “When the peaceful inhabitants of the beautiful planet Terra come under attack from the last surviving members of humanity adrift in an aging spaceship, the stage is set for an all-out war between the two races for control of the planet. But will an unlikely friendship between a rebellious young Terrian (voiced by Evan Rachel Wood) and an injured human pilot (Luke Wilson) somehow convince their leaders that war is not the answer?” Spoiler: yes. Verdict: Bar fight. I’m suspicious that this is one of those movies that’s secretly about America.
