E-cigs: the Safe Way to Smoke Cigarettes?

At this point, if you don’t know cigarette smoking is bad, then you’re retarded. If you know smoking cigarettes is bad, but you choose to smoke anyway, then no worries. I’ll spare you the health speech. You’re human and, while some of us might need a drink, a joint, a lay, or a cheeseburger to get us through the day, you choose a cigarette.
But for those of you who want to kick the habit for health reasons, beware of a growing trend marketed as a healthier alternative to smoking.
Smokeless electronic cigarettes have been gaining popularity in China and London pubs as of late, despite health authorities warning manufacturers of the damage these e-cigs may have on users.
The World Health Organization issued a statement in September warning there was no evidence to back up contentions that e-cigarettes are a safe substitute for smoking or a way to help smokers quit.
It also said companies should stop marketing them that way, especially since the product may undermine smoking prevention efforts because they look like the real thing and may lure nonsmokers, including children.
“There is not sufficient evidence that (they) are safe products for human consumption,” Timothy O’Leary, a communications officer at the WHO’s Tobacco Free Initiative in Geneva, said this week.
The laundry list of WHO’s concerns includes the lack of conclusive studies and information about e-cigarette contents and their long-term health effects, he said.
Unlike other nicotine-replacement therapies such as patches for slow delivery through the skin, gum or candy for absorption in the mouth, or inhalers and nasal sprays, e-cigarettes have not gone through rigorous testing, O’Leary said.
Prices range from about $60 to $240. Kits include battery chargers and cartridges that range in flavors (from fruit to menthol) and nicotine levels (from zero — basically a flavored mist — to 16 milligrams, higher than a regular cigarette.) The National Institutes of Health says regular cigarettes contain about 10 milligrams of nicotine.

Nothing annoys me more than some pretentious asshole that tries to make people feel shitty for smoking cigarettes. Yes, we know they make smokers smell and that it’s bad for your health, but so is eating red meat 7 days a week and never stepping foot into the gym.
As someone who used to smoke cigarettes, here are my suggestions when kicking the habit: 1) Quit for yourself, never for anyone else. You feel more confident for sticking to a goal you made for yourself, rather than some nag always breathing down your back. 2) Create a new pattern. It’s tempting to have a cigarette after having coffee, but it’s even harder after hot steamy sex. Try chewing gum or sucking on lollipops. 3) Spend more time at the gym. Some of the best sex of my life has been when I dedicate time to going to the gym. Not only can hold positions longer, but the increased endorphin levels make you feel nearly invisible. Plus, you look great naked. =)

at first, i thought ya’ll were endorsing the product.. very informative. i quit smoking myself three years ago and it was the best thing i ever did for myself. to all the smokers: just imagine all those cravings…gone! stop being a pussy and just do it.
The post is really informative. Personally, I feel that the revolutionary electronic cigarette is the best option for the smokers who want to quit smoking altogether as well as enjoy their urge for nicotine. Also, by smoking the electronic cigarette, you are not going to violate the rules against smoking. While purchasing the smokeless cigarette look for the accessories and refill programs available with it.
I think going to the gym is one of the best things one can do to quit smoking. Have you ever tried rowing 600 meters in 2 minutes? Dude, if you smoke your lung will collapse. I’m not gonna lie, I cheat all the time. And I always think I “got away with it” until I go to the gym. My body quickly reminds me I didn’t get away with squat! =)

Quit a couple of years ago, got drunk and smoked a cigarette – it was f’ing god awful. At my peak, I once went through 40 in a day.
These days I can row 1000m in 3.38.
And frankly, I’m too broke to start even if I wanted too! How people are maintaining a 20 a day habit in the UK just astounds me.
Holy shit! You do 1000m in 3:38? Hmm. I’m impressed. Actually, I guess I could do that too if I applied myself more. I have sorta fallen off the fitness wagon lately. I’m trying to jump back on, ’cause I have a 5k race later on this month I want to run in. I’m super excited. It’ll be my first one. I’ve always loved track, but have never done a 5k. I figured the time has come. And yes, I agree 20 a day is a lot. When I was a sophomore in college I used to smoke 3 packs a day for a while there. How disgusting is that?! Blech! =)

I am a huge fan and love f-listed. I browse it everyday while working from home and on weekends too. Melysa is a great writer editor. However I have never EVER had endorphins “make you (me)feel nearly invisible”, wow that must be scary for ya:) Keep up the great work. Didn’t Melysa say one time that if she ever made a type-o she would post alot of bikini pics of her
lol @ Tom.
Yeah, after I wrote the endorphins part I looked at it and thought “Wha?” but I tend to be neurotic about my writing so my other inner voice said “Let it go, Melysa. Let it go.” Damn you for calling me out!! Haha. I’m happy to hear you love F-Listed, and that you think I’m a wonderful writer. As for bikini pics in exchange for typos…..??? Hmm… I’m not falling for that one!

The perfect alternative to traditional tobacco cigarettes without the harmful tar, tobacco, 1st or 2nd hand smoke and void of the thousands of chemicals found in traditional cigarettes.
This is the sweetest invention since sliced bread… Electronic Cigarettes without question is the best technology break-through for smokers EVER. Electronic Cigarettes are smokeless, virtually odorless and emits a vapor mist which feels, tastes & looks like real smoke.
An added benefit is the ability for the electronic smoker to smoke in virtually any place or any environment. Pubs, Clubs, restaurants, theaters
