Rock Out with Your Sock Out: Lily Allen Covers "Straight to Hell" by The Clash
If you didn’t already think Lily Allen was one of the coolest b!tches on the block, this should certainly seal the deal. Check out her amazingly wonderful cover of punk rock anthem “Straight to Hell” by The Clash.
The leaked track is from the album, War Child: Heroes. The Ultimate Covers Album, scheduled for release in the UK February 16. The album goes beyond the element of music. All profits from the album will go to helping forgotten children in war zones, such as Iraq, Afghanistan, Uganda, Sierra Leone, Colombia, Chechnya, Israel/Palestine, and Kosovo, to name a few.
Not surprisingly, her cover has been received warmly by Lily fans. Question is, what do fans of The Clash think? Oh, and before pretentious music snobs are quick to say Joe Strummer must be rolling in this grave, keep in mind that it was the members of The Clash that chose Lily to cover the track. Just some food for thought.

Lilly Allen sucks. Her voice sucks. Her little pop-lite songs all suck. It’s the popularity of people like her/Paris Hilton/Amy Winehouse/Barack Obama that make me sit here and think…”Hey? What the fuck ever happened to the ’60′s? We had a cultural revolution that mocked these god-damn people and now they’ve taken everythintg over!” Then I go through my change-jar seeing if there is enough there to buy a pistol and one bullet…but my potato chip habit usually prevents the accumulation of enough coinage for that.
In any case…Straight to Hell is a great song. Given a good vocalist and thoughtful treatment.
