Today’s topic was sent in by a reader and it’s such a good one for both men and women to discuss

A guy gets a girls number…should he call or text? And then as the relationship progresses, when is texting acceptable and when does it make him look like a major wimp?

Now let me just clarify…this conversation definitely applies to men and women. I’m just a girl so I’m answering from a girls point of view.

I love texting and I hate it at the the same time. For me, texting makes it a lot easier for me to get my feelings across or flirt back and fourth with someone I might not know that well…but it also helps you avoid the inevitable, which is a normal conversation. I don’t think fighting, making up, or any “firsts” should be shared via text.

When I give a guy my number and he texts me initially to break the ice it doesn’t bother me, but I think setting up plans via text is just ridiculous. When my boyfriend and I first started dating he would text me “Outside” instead of ringing my doorbell and I always thought that was so rude.

Call me old fashioned but I loved the whole dating process pre-text…should I call that time period 1990 P.T. ? There is nothing like the first time someone calls you and you’re staring at the phone so excited, but too scared to pick it up.

Texting has made all areas of life so impersonal right? Why would I call when I could just text and avoid all human interaction? Why go through the pain of telling her I ran over her dog when I could send “OMG U R SO NOT GOING 2 LOL”

Things you definitely shouldn’t do via text in my opinion would have to be- say “I love you” for the first time (aka 143), break up,admit you have an STD and/or child and make plans with a love interest.

Things texting is good for-naughty sex talk you’d never have the balls to say on the phone, letting someone know they’re on your mind, saying good morning or goodnight and apologizing for calling and admitting you have a child and/or STD.
