The fact that the caption lists Zoe’s boyfriend as a “gringo” speaks volumes about the publication that printed it. I am white, have two African American children, and have dated outside my race most of my adult life. First, I will say that “gringo”, “white boy”, or any other derogatory term used to describe white men is as offensive to us as the “N” word, or spic is to blacks or Hispanics. If you wouldn’t use these terms in a white person’s presence, you shouldn’t use them at all. It’s sad and absurd that people still don’t get this. Racism goes both ways. If you expect white people not to categorize or prejudge before knowing you, you must be willing to get outside of you tiny, small-minded world and do the same. Let’s get it together people, damn.
