Sextoid Of The Day: Casual Sex Can Turn Into Long-Time Loving
But we’re not talking long-time loving in the damn, I’ve got some serious stamina department. We’re talking about the C, R and M words. Commitment. Relationship. Marriage. What?!? I thought casual sex was supposed to be, you know, casual. Casual as in no strings attached. I guess it’s true that nothing in life is ever really free. Find out more after the jump.
Researchers at the University of Iowa recently surveyed 642 heterosexual adults in Chicago to find out if the quality of relationships differed based on whether or not a person engaged in casual sex, friends with benefits situations or other such arrangements. Turns out, that while the relationship quality for someone who took things a little slower was higher than those who had hopped right into the sack, it wasn’t because of their sexual experiences. Sociologist Anthony Paik said:
“The study suggests that rewarding relationships are possible for those who delay sex. But it’s also possible for true love to emerge if things start off with a more ‘Sex and the City’ approach, when people spot each other across the room, become sexually involved and then build a relationship.”
There you go with that relationship word again. Thanks Iowa, you’re kind of ruining the casual part of sex for us.
